Semi-trucks from Salt Lake City, Utah delivered 360,000 lbs. of non-perishable food to nine U.S. cities just before Thanksgiving. The food donations were made possible through an historic partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Black 14 Philanthropy.
Mel Hamilton, a Black 14 member, says he was inspired to reach out to representatives of the Church for help and their response was immediate. "It makes me feel good that we can do a little part to put people back on track [during the pandemic]," he said.
The success of the project to deliver food to those in need is already paying dividends. The partnership is now involved in a fundraiser that will help Black 14 Philanthropy assist young people with education and hunger.
